හුඟ කාලෙකින් බ්ලොග් අඩවියට යමක් ලියන්න පුලුවන් කමක් ලැබුනෙත් නෑනෙ...මොකද කියල කියනවනම් සින්හලෙන් මේකෙ කොටන්න ගියාම ටිකක් විතර අමාරුයි.එ මදිවට වෙලාවත් යනවා නොවැ....මෙකයි ඇත්තම කීවොත් පොඩි කම්මැලි කමකුත් නැතුවාම නෙවේ මේකෙ යමක් සින්හලෙන් ලියන්න..ඒව කොහොම උනත් ඔන්න මම ආයෙත් ලිපියක් ලියන්න කියල කල්පනා කලා.කලින් ලිපියකදි විෂ්ව විද්යාලය තුල මුල් මාස හතරක පමන කාලය ගෙවිල ගිය හැටි ගැන මම ලිපියක් ලිව්ව කට්ටියට මතක ඇති....හැබයි ඒක ගැන වැඩි මතකයක් නැත්තන් වඩාත් හොදයි කියල තමා මට නම් හිතෙන්නෙ මොකද මම ඒක ලියන කාලෙ හිටියෙ නිකන් "අකුනක් වැදුන කුකුලෙක්" වගේ...හික් හික් හික්.....!! එතනින් යමක් ඉදිරියට ලියන්න කියල තමා මේ උත්සාහය...නමුත් දැන් නම් මේක ලියන්නෙ ඉතා සතුටින් ඉන්න හන්සයෙක් වගේ...කුරුල්ලගෙ නම මේ කාලෙට ගැලපෙනවද මන්දා .......

හ්ම්ම්.......

මම කලින් ලිපිය ලියපු අසතුටුදායක කාලයට පස්සෙ ඇත්තම කීවොත් හොඳ, ගොඩක් සතුටින් සහ උද්යෝගයෙන් ගත කරපු කාලයක් තමයි උදාවුනේ.....එකට එක ප්‍රධාන හේතුවක් විදිහට එක්තරා විශේෂ කෙනෙක්ගේ සමීප වීම කියල කියන්න මම 'සුට්ටක්' වත් මැලි වෙන්නෙ නෑ..."දැවී අළුවී යන ෆීනික්ස් එය මතින්ම යලි උපත ලබන්නේය" කියල ප්‍රභාත් 'කමෙන්ට්' එකක් දැම්ම මතකයි මගෙ කලින් ලිපියට...මෙතනදිත් උනේ ඊට සමාන දෙයක් වගේ තමා...

මේ කාලය තුල මම ඉගෙන ගත්තු දේවල් කීපයක්ම තියෙනවා.එව මොනවද කියල කෙටියෙන් වගේ කිව්වොත්,

1.Be yourself (අමුතු සතෙකු වීමට නොගොස් සාමාන්‍යය ආකාරයට ජීවත් වීම.)

2.ඉවසීම ( Patience කියන වචනය ගැන මටත් වඩා හොදින් විස්තර කරල දෙන්න පුලුවන් කෙනෙක් ඉන්නවා කිව්වොත් මම වැරදි නෑ....)

3.ලද දෙයින් සතුටු වීම.

මේවායින් වැදගත්ම එක විදිහට මට නම් දැනෙන්නෙ ඔය මුලින්ම කිව්ව එක තමා.. මම ඒ දෙය ගැන පැහැදිලි අවබෝධයක් ගත්තේ නැත්තන් මම අද ඉන්න මේ සතුටුදායක තත්වයට කවදාවත් මට එන්න බැරි වෙන්න ඉඩ තිබුනා...එ වගේම මගේ ජීවිතේ මට මුන ගැහුන වැදගත්ම කෙනෙකු හමු නොවෙන්නත් ඒක හේතුවක වෙන්න ඉඩ තිබුනා....නමුත් ඒක එසේ අවබෝධ වීම ගැන මගෙ හිතේ තියෙන්නෙ ලොකු සතුටක්..

ඒ අතරේ සෙමෙස්ටරය අවසානයේ පැවත්වෙන විභාගයත් කිට්ටු උනා.විභාගය අත ලග උනාට දවසට පැයක් විතර skype එකේ ගත කරන්න මම සුට්ටක් වත් මලි උනේ නම් නෑ... ;) හෘදයාන්ගම සුභ පැතුමක් හැමදාම විභාගෙට කලින් දවසෙ ලැබීම තුලින් ඇති වෙන්නෙ නැවුම් හැඟීමක්..ඇත්තම කිව්වොත් මේ විභාගය නම් mid එකට වඩා ගොඩාක් හොඳට කර ගන්න පුලුවන් උනා...කලින් විභාගයෙදි වුන පසු බෑම සමහර විෂයන්ට අයහපත් බලපෑමක් අති කලා..නමුත් සමස්තයක් හැටියට සෑහෙන සතුටුදායක ප්‍රතිඵලයක් ලැබුනා....

මෙලෙස විභාගය සාර්ථක කර ගන්න බල පාපු ප්‍රධානම හෙතු දෙකක් තියෙනවා...එකක් මට ගොඩාක් හිතවත් කෙනෙක්ගෙන් මට ලැබුන සහයෝගය සහ මම හොදට පඩම් කරපු එක...මුලින් කිව්ව කාරණය කොයි තරම් වැදගත් වුනාද කිව්වොත්, ඇත්තටම ලබුනු හොඳ යැයි කියන්න පුලුවන් ප්‍රතිඵලයෙන් 75% කටම වගෙ බල පෑවෙ ඒ දෙය තමයි...

“This is a compliment that I don’t deserve” කියලා හැම වෙලේම කිව්වට මම ඒකට එකඟ වෙන්නෙ නෑ කියලත් හොදටම දන්නවා නේ? ;)

ඒක කොහොම උනත් ඒ කරපු උදව්වට මම කොහොම ස්තූති කරන්නද?......

ඔන්න ඔහොම කාලය ගෙවිලා යද්දි තමා අලුත් අවුරුද්දත් ටිකෙන් ටික කිට්ටු වුනේ...මේ සති කීපය මම වැඩියෙන්ම සතුටින් කාලය ගත කරපු සති කීපයක් කිව්වොත් මම වැරදි නෑ... 2010 ජනවාරි 1 වෙනිදා....ඒ දවස කවදාවත්ම අමතක වෙන්නෙ නැති දවසක් කියන එක මට 100% විශ්වාසයි...ජීවිතයේ වැදගත් සන්දිස්ථානයක්, නැවුම් අත්දැකීමක්, අලුත් අවුරුද්දක්........ එච්චර සතුටින් ගත කරපු 31 වෙනි රාත්‍රියක් මට නම් මතක නෑ.....ජනවාරි 1 වෙනිදා විශේෂ වෙලාවකුත් තියෙනවා...ඒත් සමහර දේවල් පුද්ගලිකව තියා ගත්තම තියෙන වින්දනය හරි වටිනවා..ඒ හින්දා එක ගැන මුකුත් නොකිය ඉන්නම්.......

සති දෙක හමාරක පමණ කාලයක් අවුරුදු දෙක හමාරක් වගේ දැනෙන්න ගන්නවා කියන්නෙ ටිකක් විතර කම්මැලි හඟීමක් කියල කෙනෙකුට හිතෙන්න පුලුවන්....නමුත් මට නම් ඒක එහෙමයි කියල පොඩ්ඩක් වත් හිතුනෙ නෑ....

මේ වචන ටික කියද්දි මතක් වෙන්නෙ Owl City සංගීත කන්ඩායමේ Fireflies කියන ගීතය.....අමතක නොවෙන පද පෙලක්....අමරණීය ගීතයක්.....

දැන් ඉතින් අලුත් සෙමෙස්ටරයකුත් ආරම්භ වෙලා තියෙනවා....කලින් එකේදි වුන අඩු පාඩු සියල්ලම වාගෙ හදාගෙන ඉස්සරහට යන්න තමයි උත්සාහය....ඒ උත්සාහයේදි මම තනි වෙලා නෑ කියන හැඟීම හිතට ගේන්නෙ ලොකු සැනසීමක්......

වැඩිය විස්තර ලියන්න අදහසකුත් නෑ...මේ ඇති වගේ.....හ්ම්ම්….. ඔන්න ඔහොමයි ඉතුරු මාස කීපය ගෙවිලා ගියේ.....නරකම නෑ නේද? Impressive ;) නෙ ?

අන්තිමට, මම නිතරම කියන කථාවක් කියලා ඉවර කරන්න කියල හිතුවා…….

Up Country by Nelson DeMille

Introduction
The story is intricately and closely woven around the bitter history of the Vietnam War. Nelson DeMille, being an infantryman of US Army during the Vietnam War, tries to bring out the United States' attitude towards the Vietnam War and the ongoing ant-USA communist government. As I think the story is somewhat pro-American. Nevertheless its a well organized story which covers many aspects of Vietnam, such as its war history, constitution, simple but organized lifestyle of the Vietnamese people.

The Plot
Paul Brenner, a veteran, gets an email from his former commanding officer Colonel Karl Hellman, asking him to meet him at Washington's monument to the Vietnam dead.This wall contains the names of the soldiers killed in action during Vietnam War with a single exception. One of the soldiers, a young lieutenant, did not die in action. He was gunned down by his captain. Suddenly, thirty years later, Hellman wants Brenner to go back to Vietnam and find the only eye witness to the crime.
Brenner finds out that Vietnam is not the place he left all those years ago. He heads upcountry with his beautiful and smart 'guide', Susan Weber, who prefers to keep some secrets to herself. As he heads North in pursuit of his target, he realizes that his search is far bigger than just finding one man ..............

Criticism
The story is wonderfully organized and moves at a breathtaking pace. The complexity of the identity and behavior of Susan Weber adds something more to the curiosity of the perplexed reader. The writer also succeeds in bringing out the simple life style of the Vietnamese village folk who cherish peace of mind and soul than anything else. Those innocent people never wanted a war which was to last for nearly thirty years. They never wanted their loved ones to get killed in millions. It was the puppet government of South Vietnam(during those days) and their ally the US who made them fight for their own land. In my point of view there is nothing wrong in fighting against a force who tries invade your own territory. But the pathetic aspect of this story is Nelson DeMille, as most of the Americans, tries to condemn the people of North Vietnam as inferior creatures. The image of Paul Brenner and Susan Weber, whose motherland is thousands of miles away from Vietnam, insulting the locals, specially a high official like Colonel Minh, is not nice at all. Someone may argue that this simply demostrate the bravery of the Americans, but is it true bravery or vanity?

But when we consider all those facts as a whole "Up Country" is an interesting read.

Note : Nearly 58,000 US soldiers died during the Vietnam War, while on the other side nearly 1,396,000 got killed(both South and North Vietnamese).

But there remains the so called unanswered question of "who won the Vietnam War? " Most of us know the answer but many don't like to accept it. Nelson DeMille is also not quite clear in providing an answer for that question.

One of the foremost achievements in western literature, Homer's Illiad tells the story of the darkest episode of the Trojan War.

Troy

Trojan War itself is a part of Greek mythology so one can argue that the city of Troy did never exist. But there are certain facts about a powerful nation, who used to live in the western shores of the modern day Turkey, and collected taxes from the ships which sailed near their coast. There are written documents about Alexander the Great visiting the ancient city of Troy on his way to Persia. Modern day archaeologists have discovered remnants of an ancient city which they suspect that to be of Troy.

The Trojan War

Helen, the young and beautiful Greek princess and her Trojan lover Prince Paris, started the prelude to crisis. Helen was the wife of Menelaus, King of the Greek kingdom Sparta. Members of the Trojan royal family visited Sparta inorder to broaden the friendship between the two kingdoms. Prince Paris, the younger son of King Priam of Troy, came with them and for the astonishment of all found himself in love with fair Helen, the Queen of Sparta. One thing led to another and finally Helen ran away to Troy with Prince Paris.

As soon as Menelaus discovers that his beloved wife has been 'stolen' he joins forces with his fierce brother Agamemnon, the King of Greece, and summon all the Greek warlords and declare war on Troy.

There are memorable characters on both sides such as 'Great' Ajax, 'Lesser' Ajax, Diomedes, Idomeneus, Nstor, Odysseus and Tucer but at it's centre is mighty Achilles, the greatest warrior champion of the Greeks.

On the other side there is Hector, the elder son of King Priam and the greatest warrior of the Trojans, Aeneas, the son of goddess Aphrodite, Polydamas and Sarpedon. Most of them meet the dust at the battlefield but Aeneas survives the war and makes his way to Italy to begin the race of the great Romans.

The Plot

The book describes the incidents that took place in the final year of the 10 year long siege of the city of Troy. Achilles, the greatest warrior of all time, refuses to fight for the Greeks after being humilated by his leader Agamemnon. But when the Trojan Hector kills Achilles' close friend Patroclus, he storms back into battle to take revenge-although knowing this will ensure his own early death.

Interwoven with this tragic sequence of events are powerfully moving descriptions of the ebb and flow of battle, of the domestic world inside Troy's besieged city of Ilium and of the conflicts between the gods on Olympus as they argue over the fate of mortals.

Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott

At the same time he brings into the novel the legendary outlaw Robin Hood and his band of outlaws, and creates a brilliant, account of the age of chivalry with all its elaborate rituals and costumes and its values of honour and personal glory.

The story also describes how the Jews were discriminated by the commons and by the rulers during that certain age. It also brings out white peoples attitude towards the dark skinned people(Saracans in this stroy), as a certain group of people who are wild and less emotional. Scott tries to bring out the dark side of the Templar Knights, the protectors of Christiandom, in which he was successful. The fierce Templar, to the astonishment of all the readers, fall in love with the fair Jewess, which leads to disaster. But the sudden appearence of Wilfred of Ivanhoe in the lists of Templars save the life of the innocent creature.

Though the reader get the feeling that Wilfred and Rebecca are getting close to each other in numerous occasions, their relegious beliefs draw them apart in a dissapointing manner and finally leads to Wilfred taking the hand of fair Saxon maiden Rowena, his childhood companion, and the fair Jewess entering a convent.

Alexander - THE GREATEST LEGEND

The movie "Alexander" traces the short but adventures life of the Macedonian conqueror, Alexander the Great(356-323 B.C.)., whom conquered almost the entire known world of his era. His father was King Philip of Macedonia who was murdered in 336 B.C. Upon his father's murder Alexander ascended the throne at the age of 20. After he became the king he crossed into Asia chasing his father's murderer but it led to a 11-year conquest of the know world. The movie traces his conquests of Egypt, to battles with the Persians and the capture of Babylon, operations near Maracanda and in Afghanistan, and pushing all the way to India where he reigned unchallenged before his sudden death at the age of 32 in Babylon. Although Alexander used the well-oiled army created by his father, King Philip, he pushed the limits of Macedonian and Greek power to the levels King Philip could not have dreamt of.
